In-person tutoring for Highgate, Hampstead and Muswell Hill families

When you find a tutor through a Facebook group or Nextdoor post, you have no way of verifying their background or knowing whether they’re the right fit for your child. A tutoring agency does all of that on your behalf: vetting every tutor, matching them carefully to your child, and remaining accountable if something isn’t working.

Most of our tutors are Oxbridge or Russell Group-educated, and we verify this as part of our vetting process. In exceptional circumstances, we also work with tutors who don't fit this profile but bring outstanding credentials instead, such as a long, proven track record of teaching or tutoring success, or experience as a head of department. Every tutor, regardless of background, goes through the same rigorous vetting: interview, references, and an enhanced DBS check.

An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is the highest level of UK government background check. It confirms a person has no criminal history that would make them unsuitable to work with children. We require an enhanced DBS check for every tutor before they meet any family. It is non-negotiable.

A DBS check is just the starting point. Every tutor agrees to our Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct before they’re introduced to a family, covering professional boundaries, appropriate communication with students, and clear steps for reporting any concern. For sessions involving a student under 18, a responsible adult must be present in the property throughout. If anything ever feels wrong to a family or a tutor, we want to hear about it straight away.

Yes, we specialise exclusively in in-person tutoring. We believe a tutor sitting with your child in the same room produces better outcomes than online sessions for most students, particularly those who need confidence-building as much as content. There are plenty of online tutoring platforms if that’s what you’re looking for; we focus on doing in-person well.

We don’t use an algorithm. When you contact us, we take time to understand your child: their year group, current level, target grade or school, learning style, and personality. We then identify the right tutor from our vetted pool based on subject specialism, exam board knowledge, teaching style, and location. Every match is personal.

Yes. A number of our tutors bring specific training or hands-on experience supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD and other SEN needs, including adapting their teaching style and pace to suit. We cover Maths, English and Sciences from primary through to A-level, along with History, Economics and Computer Science. We also have specialist tutors for Mandarin, Art History, Classical Civilisation, Drama, Geography, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Religious Studies, Modern Languages and Linguistics. On top of this, we offer entrance exam preparation (7+, 11+, 13+ and Common Entrance) and Oxbridge Prep, including personal statements, interview technique, admissions tests, and medical school admissions coaching. Where no tutor on our current roster is a strong fit for a specific requirement, we’d rather tell you than place a partial match. In those cases, we may offer to conduct a dedicated recruitment search on your behalf. This typically takes two weeks and follows the same process applied to every tutor we work with: interview, reference verification, and an enhanced DBS check.

A deposit of £100 is payable to begin the search. If we place a suitable tutor, this is deducted in full from your first invoice. If we’re unable to find the right person within the agreed window, it’s refunded in full.

Rates start from £60 per hour and rise to £100+ for our specialist tutors, such as examiners, Heads of Department, and those with a long, evidenced track record of results. We’re not the cheapest tutoring option in North London, and we don’t try to be: our focus is on matching your child with the right tutor for them, backed by our vetting process. Your first lesson is 50% off, so there’s no risk in trying us before committing to anything ongoing.

No, registering with Kenwood Education is completely free. There’s no charge to get in touch, be matched with a tutor, or try your first lesson.

Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, and we add our margin on top — the rate we confirm to you is the full rate, with no hidden charges. Sessions are invoiced individually and automatically as soon as a lesson is marked complete, and payment is taken by card through our payment provider, Stripe. There’s no separate agency fee or subscription on top of this.

No, nothing upfront. Your first lesson goes ahead at half price, and it’s only afterwards, once it’s taken place, that you’ll pay and add a card on file for future sessions. From there, each lesson is invoiced automatically as it happens.

That’s exactly why your first lesson is 50% off. If after the first session you feel the match isn’t right, tell us and we’ll find someone better. After the trial, you and your tutor communicate directly, and you’ll receive lesson notes after every session.
